Someone asked us:
Q. I want to be an ob/gyn when I grow up, to help people with family planning in particular, esp. because of the shortage of abortion providers out there! Besides the usual answer of good grades, med school, etc., is there anything you folks would suggest for getting a foot in the door of reproductive health services?
First of all: you rule. Second of all: check out Medical Students for Choice: a terrific organization that works to get medical students the training they need to become family planning doctors.
It sounds like age-wise, you’re probably not quite ready for medical school (though you seem really smart to me). So while you’re waiting to go to med school you can contact your local Planned Parenthood health center for information on reproductive health initiatives going on in your community and to find out how you can get involved.
