Does the birth control pill cause cancer?

Someone asked us:

I have been on the pill for a year now and I don’t intend to stop. I have read that long term usage of birth control pills might increase the risk of getting some types of cancers like ovarian and breast cancer and that it might be linked to glaucoma. Is this true? Should I consider changing my method? PS: My gynecologist says she has been on the pill for 10 years without a problem but I still have my doubts

Actually, using the pill lowers your chances of developing ovarian and endometrial cancer! The longer you use the pill, the longer that protection lasts and the less likely you are to develop these types of cancer.

And the most recent research says that the pill has little, if any, effect on the risk of developing breast cancer. So rest assured that the birth control pill is very safe, and you can use it for as many years as you need to.
