High-resPlanned Parenthood firmly believes in the reproductive justice pillar that people should be able to parent their children without fear that they will be harmed or killed. We stand with those calling for justice for the lives of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile and for laws to change in order to protect Black lives.
Shout out to @repealhydeartpr for the artwork.
High-resPeople should be able to raise their children without the fear of gun violence. Doctors and nurses should be able to provide care without the fear of gun violence. You should be able to have a relationship without the fear of gun violence. This is a reproductive justice issue.

Young people really understand that all of the issues that we’re talking about are completely intersectional. It’s no good to have a right if you literally can’t access it. Whether it’s the restrictions on people’s voting or lack of access to reproductive care, they hurt low-income women of color the most in this country. That’s not by chance.

We can’t talk about abortion access without talking about poverty, or violence, or food security, or who is deemed by society ‘fit’ and ‘unfit’ parents. When someone makes a decision to have an abortion, there are so many other factors in their lives, factors that are influenced by structural forces, that come into play.

High-res“Planned Parenthood Generation Action believes in developing young leaders across movements, identities, and issues in order to harness our collective power to impact change in our communities. This includes learning to become better allies and centering the countless Black women who have led the fight for reproductive freedom and women’s rights.
Becoming active allies and co-conspirators for racial justice takes more than good intentions— we must work to educate and hold our ourselves accountable if we truly want to achieve justice and dismantle systems of oppression in our lives and work as activists. That is why we are celebrating Black History Month by sharing some of our favorite readings by Black authors who challenge our thinking through their artful words and deep knowledge of the intersections of race, gender, and class.
Having access to clean, safe water is a reproductive justice issue. It affects your health. Families deserve better than this.

The Repeal Hyde Art Project, founded by “artivist” Megan J. Smith, aims to raise awareness around the Hyde Amendment, which forbids federal funds (such as Medicaid) to be used in paying for abortions, making reproductive healthcare even more inaccessible to poor folks.
The Repeal Hyde Art Project produces beautiful images such as the ones you see above, and circulates them through Facebook and Twitter. Their mission statement reads:
“The Project accomplishes its mission through collaborative arts and shareable graphic content. It is a colorful, optimistic, and interactive response to Hyde that reflects the self-determination of the people who have overcome barriers and the hope for change. We also recognize that the Hyde Amendment has a disproportionate impact on women of color and exists within an multi-layered, oppressive environment. We strive to create intersectional dialogue that links abortion access to other related issues: a dialogue which reflects the complex realities of our lives. We are strong and we fly together. The more we share the birds and the message, the more we raise awareness, and the more we can push for change.”
